UPDATE ON MEASURES UNTIL FEBRUARY 28TH

The Government announced how the measures will be applied for the rest of the month

In light of the decrease in new COVID cases during the last week, the Government has decided to maintain the restrictions that had been implemented since the end of January which are now going to be extended until February 28th, 2022

As usual, we prepared a summary for you:

DRIVING RESTRICTIONS

  • The nighttime driving banwill remain the same for the whole country: Monday through Sunday, from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. 
  • Restrictions by Plates: Are kept only in the Ring Road (“anillo de circunvalación”)in San José still giving the chance for people to drive four (4) out of five (5) weekdays. As follows the detailed list of plates that CANNOT circulate per day in this designated area.
    • Monday: 1 and 2.
    • Tuesday: 3 and 4.
    • Wednesday: 5 and 6.
    • Thursday: 7 and 8.
    • Friday: 9 and 0
  • Weekends: The restrictions by plates on the weekends are still eliminated for the whole country, remaining in force only the nighttime driving ban mentioned above.
  • All activities/businesses shall operate with the same schedule matching the driving restrictions from 5:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
  • A list of exceptions is still established (you can reach out to us here for the complete list).

GRADUAL REOPENING OF MASS ACTIVITES

  • Public Events: Since February 12th, cultural and sporting events may be held with the public, applying the health protocols already established for these activities. Sports, cultural, academic, and business activities resume the gradual opening plan, with an authorization to increase the capacity to 80% for those who voluntarily request the QR code and 40% for events that do not verify it.
  • Bus Service: The capacity of people allowed standing on the buses contemplated in the protocol of the Public Transport Council is kept to 100%. 
  • Train Service: As of February 14th, the Costa Rican Railway Institute (Incofer) will have the authorization of the Ministry of Health to increase the number of people standing on trains, according to the type of wagon and the health guidelines.

QR CODE UPDATES

  • Extended Term: The precautionary measure issued by the Contentious Administrative and Civil Court has still not been resolved, the transition period for the voluntary use of the QR Code is still extended up until March 7th, 2022.

EXTENDED VACCINATION SCHEDULES

  • The health authorities reported this Friday that as of February 14th, the vaccination centers will have an extended vaccination schedule until 6:00 p.m. and the opening of at least one day during the weekends.
  • The strategy of Reinforcement (“Reforza”: contra COVID-19“), will focus its efforts on three groups:
    1. Over 12 years of age who have not yet received their first dose,
    2. Over 12 years of age who received their first vaccine at least 21 days before.
    3. Third dose for those who received their second dose at least 4 months ago.
