FURTHER EXTENSIONS OF DRIVERS´ LICENSES

As announced in the past days, the Ministry of Transport has finally published the Resolution 2020-001307 stating new extensions of the validity of Drivers´ Licenses. The new rules are the following:

• Foreign Drivers´ Licenses of tourists who entered Costa Rica after December 17, 2019 and until November 30, 2020: their validity is extended until March 2, 2021 (that is, the same date of the current extension of tourist visas – provided the insurance coverage is consistent with such a date).
• Foreign Drivers´ Licenses of residents (permanent and temporary), refugees, and citizens that expired during the suspension of the homologation services and that, even after, it has not been possible to renew due to the difficulties in obtaining the necessary appointment before the General Directorate of Traffic Education: their validation or homologation can be requested until January 11, 2021.
• Costa Rican Drivers´ Licenses of Costa Rican citizens or residents whose DL expired after March 20, 2020: the renovation calendar has been extended as follows:
